Dune Then, To Dune Now

If you’ve spent any amount of time strolling beneath suspended ceilings, there’s a fair chance you’ll have come across the Armstrong Dune. For years it’s been a sort of ‘go-to’ tile, renowned for its quality. As a result, it has sold in vast quantities.

New Dunes – Armstrong Changes The Dune Tile

Over the years Armstrong has improved its Dune tiles and re-branded them. Inconveniently, it has also changed the model BP numbers, making it difficult to match up older versions of the tiles to the new equivalents. What began as the Dune Premier became the Dune Supreme. Then a further rebrand brought things up to date with the Dune Evo.

Why Did Armstrong Change The Dune?

It’s not just the names that changed. Over the years building standards have changed too, and that meant that tile specifications also needed to adapt. And as technology has advanced, so Armstrong has incorporated it into each new generation of tile. Today’s Dune Evo tiles offer better light reflectance, sound attenuation and fire ratings compared to their predecessors.

Such changes are only likely to continue. Ceiling tiles must change and improve just as cars are required to improve on emissions and quality. But if that’s left you asking ‘which tile replaces mine?’ here are the answers.

The obsolete ceiling tiles are in black. Their current equivalents are in blue:

Tile Matching

The above are direct replacements for their ancestors, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the tile will look like a direct match. Further changes and adaptations made over the years could mean your old tiles differ in look and performance to that of new Dune ceiling tiles.
