What is a metal wall lining system?
A metal wall lining system is a lightweight framework installed in front of an existing masonry, brick or blockwork wall. It creates a straight, level structure onto which suitable plasterboard can be fixed while providing space to conceal cables, pipework, insulation and other services.
Which components are needed for a wall lining system?
A typical system uses vertical wall liner channels, horizontal floor and ceiling track and suitable fixing brackets to restrain the framework to the existing wall. Plasterboard, appropriate fixings and optional insulation are then added according to the required wall specification.
Is this the same as a British Gypsum GypLyner system?
No. This category includes unbranded wall lining components intended for similar general applications to components commonly described as GL1 lining channels and GL8 tracks. Unless a product is explicitly identified as British Gypsum Gypframe, it is not a genuine British Gypsum GypLyner component. Do not mix components from different systems where a tested fire, acoustic or thermal specification is required unless their compatibility has been confirmed.
How is a wall lining system different from a metal stud wall?
A wall lining system is installed in front of an existing wall and is normally restrained back to that background using brackets. A metal stud wall forms a separate partition using studs positioned within floor and ceiling tracks. The correct system depends on whether you are lining an existing surface or creating a new dividing wall.
Which wall liner fixing bracket do I need?
The correct bracket depends on the required distance between the existing wall and the finished lining. Available options include the GL2 195mm fixing bracket, GL9 295mm fixing bracket and GL12 395mm fixing bracket. Brackets can be cut or folded to suit the required stand-off, but the final selection and spacing must follow the project specification.
What wall liner channel lengths are available?
Our unbranded wall liner channels are available in 2.4m, 2.7m, 3m and 3.6m lengths. Measure the floor-to-ceiling height before ordering and allow for the head and base track and any cutting required during installation.
Can insulation be installed behind a wall lining system?
Yes. Suitable insulation can be installed within the cavity where permitted by the system design. Thermal, acoustic and fire performance depends on the complete wall build-up, including the insulation, plasterboard, cavity depth, fixings and installation method. Individual components do not provide a guaranteed performance level on their own.
Are metal wall lining systems easy to install?
Metal wall lining systems are designed for efficient installation by a competent installer. The floor and ceiling track must be positioned accurately, channels correctly spaced and the framework properly restrained to the background. Always follow the applicable project specification and product guidance, particularly where fire, acoustic or thermal performance is required.

A wall lining system can form part of an acoustic or thermal upgrade when combined with suitable insulation and performance plasterboard.
